Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford is working with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to strengthen Canada’s energy sovereignty, build stronger domestic supply chains and get more Canadian energy to Canadian and global markets.
In an increasingly uncertain world, Canada needs the infrastructure to produce, move and use more of our own energy here at home. That’s why Ontario is advancing the proposed Northern Shield Energy Corridor, a nation-building project that would transport Canadian oil along a 3,300-kilometre route from Hardisty, Alberta, to Sarnia, Ontario.
Built entirely within Canada using Canadian steel, the proposed corridor would move an estimated 500,000 barrels of oil per day, with the potential to expand to as much as 800,000 barrels per day. It would strengthen Canada’s energy security, support Ontario’s refineries, create good-paying jobs and reduce our reliance on foreign markets and infrastructure.
Ontario is also exploring new opportunities to get Canadian energy to tidewater and global markets, along with a potential strategic petroleum reserve to help ensure Canada has a secure domestic supply of critical fuels.
